The Imperium of Man is a galaxy-spanning empire devoted to a god-like figure—the Emperor, enthroned in eternal vigil upon the Golden Throne. Even in this technologically advanced yet decaying future, faith and dogma remain the bedrock of society.

Pilgrims are those who undertake perilous journeys to prove devotion, seek redemption, or fulfill sacred obligations. Their destinations may include holy sites such as Terra (Holy Earth), where the Emperor slumbers, or other worlds sanctified by martyrdom and miracle.

Pilgrim-ships are the decrepit, overcrowded vessels that carry these masses through the void. Picture a floating slum in space, packed with hundreds of thousands of desperate souls. These voyages are long, grueling, and rife with danger—starvation, mutant uprisings, warp-borne horrors, and the ever-looming threat of heresy.
