Cognition refers to the human perception of the world and the understanding of phenomena as "reality." The Phantom Thieves of Hearts seek to quench the desires of villains by seizing secret treasures, forcing them to confess their crimes and repent. Mitsui Tsubasa disagrees. He believes such immense power is wasted on just a few villains. He'd rather use cognitive science to reshape the world. By eliminating all the "bad guys" who oppose him, a perfect world where only "good guys" exist will emerge. He invests in a pharmaceutical research institute for Takemiya, enlists An Takamaki as a brand ambassador, and with the help of Futaba Sakura, builds the ctOS system, manipulates the sports world to make the Yoshizawa sisters dance for him, and becomes the new "master" of the Velvet Room. The world offers countless pleasures, but Mitsui Tsubasa simply seeks to satisfy his own petty collecting urges and embrace everything he loves. No matter how capricious he may be, this world is his. At the end of the story, he wants to witness a spectacular performance. Atop this mortal realm, under the gaze of all, he will face the final battle between humanity and the gods, alongside the Phantom Thieves of Heart, the brave men who aspire to save the world.
