Objectively it's better than other novel with growth type MC, but.. some of the glaring downsides are hard to ignore.
Pros:
1. Relatively stable environment for early growth of MC, it did not push him into mindless conflict right at the start like many novels tend to do these days.
2. The world is well thought out and other characters have a bit of brain even though they show up for 1-2 chapters only. Example, the warrior guy from Liu family who even though following his clan elder's orders, he isn't overtly submissive to the weak elder just because he is of seniority.
Cons:
1. MC has a cheat with his skellies being able to be used as untiring hard labourers already, then he gets a blessing from the professional statue for being sincere? (To this day nobody actually sincerely bowed down to the statue? Are you kidding me?) Then he gets the comprehension skill due to bodhi leaf *accidentally*, this is in addition to all the record breaking rewards issued by the system.
2. Author inserted martial arts way too early in MC. He is a farmer, so instead of thinking of ways to optimize the profession and earn more money in the early stages which can be used to buy the resources that can increase his strength later on, he focuses on learning martial arts and wants to go kill monsters.
3. As many other readers pointed out MC's monologues are ok in the beginning but repeated use of same thing makes it utterly cringe later on.
Initially it was good, but at around chapters 100, I find that the way MC operates changed drastically. Till then MC was cautious and even when he had people help him without expecting anything in return he used caution and kept them at distance and only after months of observation he let them in on portion of his secrets (aka Jiayi).
Then after ch. 100, he enters the secret realm and encounters an artificial intelligence which says he is the strongest person and qualified to become their master and he believes it without much thought. That's not in line with his personality trait shown till now.
Apart from this, rest are mostly good.
Edit: After catching up to the latest chapter release I am gonna increase my rating by 1 more star. Although I stand by with my previous judgement, I quite like the cautious opmc troupe without any sort of parody mixed in.
Ch .40:
So far it's alright, would have gone for 4 star but due to heavy bias shown by the author towards the western countries I decided to deduct one star more, so 3/5. Most people would drop out at this point in the story due to the same reason. I am saying this as a fellow easterner that the way author tries to showcase west vs east is really a cheap tactic but it's not one we haven't seen in these type of novels.
Ch. 52:
Lost another star, MC showcased his abilities and gave evidence of the prediction to the eastern govt. but only resorted to give 4 day advanced notice to other western govt. what do you expect them to do? It was rigged from the beginning and MC had the gall to state easterners are worth saving because they showed him potential in evacuation and rescue attempts. BS.
Will update my review if my views on the novel changes afterwards.
It's a comedy troupe but that's it. Nit even good comedy but rather the cheap and vulgar variety. Not my cup of tea.
If you just like to read funny dialogue without any sort of depth into the plot you are gonna like this novel.
As many readers have pointed out the MC is a trash. He is the typical guy who bullies the weak as long as it's fun and beneficial to him. He feels wronged when he was weak and gets ordered around by noble families and when he gets the same power he does the same to other people. Such a hypocrite. Story is also not something new, but decent as the golden finger is broken but not in a way where it would make him too strong from the beginning. Side characters are plain, they don't get enough attention to flesh them into a real character rather than just a placeholder for junior brother, neighbour etc.
