Novel Summary

1873 marked the beginning of the Gilded Age in the United States.

Edward Sinclair, the 7th Marquess of Ashton, arrives in New York from London burdened with his family's enormous debts and an empty title. His bargaining chip is his lineage of Old World nobility; his target is the vast wealth of the New World's bandit aristocracy.

When financial tycoon Jay Cook collapsed, Wall Street closed, and everyone was gripped by panic, Edward, with his timeless memory, saw an opportunity to rebuild the empire.

He moved among Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, and J.P. Morgan; this gilded beggar would use the gold of the New World to recast the crown of the Old World.
