Forest Station 1985: Raising a Bear Cub to Hunt the Mountains

“Erhan, you know the Greater Khingan Mountains these days are a place where ‘you club a deer, scoop a fish, and pheasants fly into your cooking pot.’”

“As long as we work hard, why worry about going hungry?”

Dai Song pats the giant bear head beside him, sending clouds of dust flying from its fur.

“Rawr~ rawr!”

“Don’t rush, don’t rush! I haven’t forgotten your grudge! But you know, those poachers up north all have guns! We're not strong enough yet, so we need to lay low for now. Once I’ve saved up enough money for a Type 56 rifle, then what’s there to fear?!”

“Rawr! Rawr!”

“See? That’s the spirit! So you need to work harder. If you don’t help me hunt, how am I supposed to make money? And without money for a gun, how can I avenge you?”

Somehow, the second son of the Dai family has changed.

Once idle and aimless, now his eyes shine with purpose and care.

Hunting, farming, running the hills.

Villagers all say when they see Old Dai:

But only Dai Song himself knows how difficult his original life path would’ve been.

Now, reborn in 1985, he finds a clever little brown bear cub and names it Erhan.

Raising it bit by bit, he relies on it to hunt wild boars, pick mushrooms, dig for ginseng...

With a second chance at life, all he wants is to strangle misfortune in its cradle, make up for past regrets, and give his family the good life they deserve.
