up to chapter 1700 everything was perfect .. like the MC isnt pedantic and not bound by moral stuff .. also there are no double standards, overall everything was perfect .. tho after 1700 chapter, its still good just not perfect ..
but still this novel is one of the best ones ive ever read,
- realistic (socializing and the mentality of the MC while dealing with characters and events)
- serious ( i mean its not vain because most novels focus on superficial stuff to the point of it being delusional)
- focused (POV is mostly on MC and in my view thats a + )
- funny (most of the time its interesting reading and out of nowhere something funny happens that makes me laugh)
... wanted to write more but im not good with leaving good reviews .. overall i would rate this at 90/100
R15.. i would recommend this for teenagers to read.
first 50-70 chapters were good , they had this sense of pressure, anticipation of how the MC would act, wonder of whats going to happen next...etc. after that everything got generic/dull and fell into stereotypes .. ofc that can be seen as something good (if the reader is interested in reading about that style of story)
overall im sick and tired of reading about MC being heroic, nanny, protector, nonsensical responsibility/debt/guilt..etc.
P.S. did the MC ever had the choice to go the selfish route ?.. ofc he can complete the missions but wont get attached to people in every world.. also its funny/annoying how the MC ignores red flags (the obvious conclusions)
i would have given 5 stars if the story was focused on "the city that never sleeps" and not about his travels through worlds .. this novel is too childish/naive (talking about the mentality of the author while writing.) im not saying that its bad (sometimes it makes me smile/laugh) its just not for me
also some things described are simply delusional.. ofc i know its a fantasy/story so i should not take it seriously but ... sigh, it would be nice if it was a bit more realistic (talking about mentality/atmosphere)
The author could not escape the stereotype mindset where the MC needs to be surrounded by females, i mean in every world he travels through, there are females that get attached/have feelings/simp over him..etc... at that point idk if the tag loner is deserved.. its like im reading about harem stuff
also the MC of this novel is kind of hypocritical.. im saying that because the MC could have been more powerful but he isnt because the author writes the MC goals but the MC acts the opposite of that.. so it feels hypocritical.. (meaning by the 3rd world the MC should be as strong as he is when the novel ended.. more optionized)
one last thing .. i dont think i should say plagiarism but there are alot of names/characters/stories/events/situations from other movies/books/games in this novel..
one of the few works where the author doesnt focus on writing about some romance or ethic .. the MC has a goal and there are no distracting things outside of that goal (meaning no socializing/ relationship building / affection towards people or organizations..etc)
if you are interested in this novel because of these tags.. Antihero Protagonist, Apathetic Protagonist, Living Alone, Loner Protagonist, Evil Protagonist.. then you might be disappointed .. the first 300-350 chapters were kinda okay (i say kinda because of how the author writes the mentality/communication between the MC and other characters) .. afterwards those tags dont apply to this novel (atlest not fully)
anyway the novel is good (good enough i guess) the only positive thing that comes to mind is that its not female based .. (i mean novel where the MC has double standards(hypocritic) and is surrounded by females)
Edit: when i was looking for new novels to read and saw this novel with those tags ... i thought the novel would be a good one where the MC would go around and be a free spirit (no attachments to people or forces/civilizations) .. trying to achieve his dreams while doesnt put much value in friendships/affiliation/affection..etc. (meaning that the MC doesnt mind having them but wont waste time on it either) for example if someone gets in his way.. the MC wont care about the history or affection they have with the target..
meaning that the author wont write stuff like "being touched" or "deeply moved" or nonsensical "debts" or some other crap.. for example the MC encounter something and is like " he received few drops and would return a whole spring".. like Bruh the other person is doing it for his own benefit (be it job/advantage/value) why TF every author has to write like that ( i know why, i just find it annoying)
anyway dont get me wrong.. i like this novel, im simply ranting about authors style (because of their culture/mentality/norms)
P.S. i dont see the MC as low-key.. the MC is more meek/cowardly .. (40-60% of the time the MC grovels and is humble).. and im not talking about how the MC doesnt go on adventure or has exploration mindset.. im talking about how he is interacting with other characters ..
(i would have given 5 star if the MC was apathetic/loner from beginning till the end)
i saw these tags Cunning Protagonist, Loner Protagonist, Ruthless Protagonist.. and thought it would be a good novel where the MC wont be some saint but nope (affection/etiquette/ethics/responsibility..etc.) atlest its not up to my taste
also the first chapter (strong independent woman.. )LMAO, either the author doesnt know how to write one or the their standards for one are delusional
P.S. i dont see how the MC is cunning , most of the time i find stuff described stupid/delusional/retarded (i judge that based on values and interest and how the author writes the story to achieve them)
what can i say .. at the beginning it was fun and interesting but after 70+ chapters it got dull (because of generic stuff) and at that point i was just reading it out of dedication .. (meaning that idk if i could finish it)
at first i had a good impression while reading this but after a while it got dull/generic.. also when reading, it reminds me of stoicism (control of emotion and exploration/goals/dreams..etc) tho that might be my projection on the novel (which can be false).. also some descriptions/portraits/storytelling/writing arent that ... dont know how to say it.. it feels ridiculous/delusional at times.. it made me skip whole chapters because its filled with nonsense(even if that nonsense is needed for readers to get attached to characters or growth for the characters themselves)..
anyway in the end its a okay novel, it could be better but hey nothing is perfect.
i say nonsense because the MC has better choices but the author doesnt go that route.. because of loyalty/attachments/ethics the MC needs to go through extra detours
also it gets on my nerve when the author writes like 'deskmate' 'classmete' ... bruh, had bad childhood ? (about authors school days)
P.S. if i exclude academy/school parts from the novel then i would give it 4-5 stars.
P.P.S. my most favorite parts of this novel is when the MC sacrifices items for talents.
P.P.P.S. i dont like the simping (for example how 'Thetis' acts towards the MC) or how clueless/ignorant the MC is towards honey traps.. i mean when the MC deals with males.. he is guarded , looks for red flags, being careful not to suffer..etc. but when the MC deals with females.. he is this lucky go happy MC with Plot armor on top.. Like BRUH... (double standards much ??)
Last Edit: the novel is naïve towards certain things, which make reading it kinda Meh.. for example when people go against/plot the MC again and again .. the MC should have killed so there are no future troubles (or less troubles)... every time i read novels like this, i end up thinking "if i was inside the novel and had to go against the MC.. how would i do things" (i mean like im the MC nemesis) which makes me see how childish the schemes are (because chinise culture ruins logical schemes and things end up delusional).
good novel .. i like all the system notifications :D the only thing i dont like is the generic stuff (face slapping, simping, gushing/adoration..etc.) like when its not MC related (meaning that the POV is not the MC) i skip all the nonsense (sometimes whole chapters are skipped)
i quit .. too much patriotism ? like obligation , for humanity , piety..etc. at this point every chinese novel is the same because the authors never stray away from chinese morals/ethics .. and i dont mind it but after reading 200+ novels this kind of stuff is dull as heck .. i would want to blow up humanity just for novelty sake .. who cares if its not moral or evil .. there is like 1 million novels where MC is some hero or saint or patriot or some other crap that needs to protect/sacrifice for the greater good .. ofc there are novels that the MC is selfish and evil but even in those novels , the ending is something like the MC changed for the better and saved some world... sigh.. excuse my rant, i simply had enough
in this novel i tried to focus on the good parts and ignore the stuff that gets on my nerve but i just cant.. chinese factory setting .. 90% of the novels are the same (including this one)
P.S. reading what ive written .. it sound like im racist but thats not really the case, idc in general.. its just stuff like this get on my nerve where the characters have no individuality and they are allways written towards chinese custom/culture/ethics .. for example obligations, filial piety, respect, honor, boasting..etc. like every chinese novel ive read is exactly the same
Edit: also the mentality towards females and harems .. like BRUH .. meaning how events are described when female are involved/introduced are simply ......... no comment
chūnibyō too much ??? like sure the MC is in school but not f**king eight grade ... and all the envy, hate, boasting ... soo childish ... like some characters mentality is that of an kindergarten..
also 5 females ware introduced by chapters 55 .. like bruh...
before someone complains about my review .. if a game can make money then its no longer a game .. its an avenue where people can thrive ... meaning people need mature mindset while playing that game .. while this.... idk what im reading
i wanna smash something while reading this... all this filial piety, obligations, affections..etc. is just soo nonsensical (even delusional to a degree) tho i guess that is the norm in chinise society/ethics.. also i dont like how the MC is forced into things (and he tolerates it because of etiquette)
P.S. chapter 93-97 is being dramatic for no reason (hype/atmosphere? bunch of nonsense imo) if i was the MC.. i would smack them.. sure the parents would be traumatized over the event but CMON who has the patience to deal with their antics.. it has already happened, no need to make it sound so serious.. lmao
Edit: also the MC is too naive for being criminal police officer in his past life.. im talking about mentality and suspicion towards things (for example suspicions towards his parents)
also i was thinking .. what would happen if a person didnt participate in that 'hair-tying ceremony' and was never marked.
also i dont like the stuff about the debts and favors .. like some one is doing their job and the MC is soo touched/guilty that they feel indebted .. like BRUH
