Quite good. A somewhat unusual novel. The characters are interesting. Be warn, it's not your typical "action" "martial arts" novel. I would not even categorized it as "action" or "martial arts". Quite a good read!
Quite unbearable to read. Everything just falls in place by coincidence, the MC is busy chasing skirts, the females are not very intelligent. It could have been much better by making the characters more realistic. How can one be a sect leader, even a small one, be manipulated by mortal merchants, endured lewd remarks by her captives. Are the readers retard or was it the author? What an insult to intelligence.
The nonsensical novel. As a reader, there's a suspension of disbelief that is required when reading work of fiction. A good author will weave together a world or system that rewards the reader as the story progresses. This one punishes the reader by making things even more outrageous without regard towards the world (s)he built. An absolute garbage.
Is it comedy? Author's sanitized version of his day dream? It certainly over the top every girl who sees the MC will fall for him, regardless of cultivation levels. There's also a logical hole in that before he was accepted as disciple by his deceased master, he struggled and toiled in obscurity, then the widowed master's wife dual cultivated with him out of desperate situation. Since then, the MC became unstoppable female magnet. He get Dao companions, concubines every time he snapped his fingers. The implications by the author is he awakened his nine yang meridians physique- at least that's the most logical conclusion I can think of.
It feels like reading fairy tales for elementary school children. The plot is also very straight forward, adding to the fairy tale for children flavor. Some might like it.
Ugh! I don’t get the high rating. The plot is a bit juvenile. Is that how a villain thinks and schemes? Maybe a teenage villain, definitely not how a 50 odd year old one as the MC purported to be.
I think the concept is fine. The execution is a bit problematic. It's basically a repeat of misunderstood MC who once was a genius, fallen because of trashy occupation - the Taoist -. With his golden finger, the MC started reversals to achieve glory and kill enemies (internal and external). As a reader, I am left with, is this it? Anything new? Haven't I read this before?
Those that gave up on the novel too early misses the subsequent evolution of the novel. The MC found out that the kingdom he was in was just a lower level resource gathering and potential human seed of the sect from transcendent world. Though there are further twists and turns, the MC with his golden finger eventually showed his power in transcendent world. Anyway, the story is OK. If Sherlock Holmes is master of deductions, then the MC is just equivalent to his socks. The MC's deductions is from golden fingers, plot armor.
A huge caveat regarding this review. I don't know who the celebrities are IRL, so I really don't get this book. The general plot seems OK, but the use of current Chinese actors/actresses/singers etc as characters threw me off as I have no context of who or what they are. The author presumed a certain familiarity with current Chinese entertainment scene.
