Where is there steady progress? All I've read so far is fighting and running and conspiracy.

Why is it every mc always wants to wear a white robe after becoming stronger? The story is OK mc travels between 2 worlds which both use martial arts but in a different way. He tries to combine the best of both worlds to get stronger. The only thing is nationalism thing that happened with japan, and the occasional racism.
