Interesting premise, well-developed relationships, and thoughtfully written secondary characters. But one aspect completely killed my desire to keep reading this novel—namely, the portrayal of the two continents. One is inhabited by the so-called "yellow race" living in perfect harmony, while the other is filled with "white, black, and other colored races" drowning in chaos and anarchy.
And yet, the author spent the entire story showing us the chaos on this "harmonious" yellow continent—entire families wiped out, no laws, only "unwritten rules." Yet this barbarism is somehow presented as "living in harmony."
The author missed a crucial point: wars aren’t caused by race—they’re fought over resources. Race might be used to justify a war ("They’re the bad ones!"), but it’s never the actual reason for conflict. This basic logic, which the author completely ignored, is what ruined the book for me.
