Good story. Too brutal for the average heart, be prepared for a lot of random killings.
Downside: Too many side stories of people outside of the family.
Good novel.
Don't expect everyone swimming in cultivation resources (like most novels), this a novel about struggle of lack of resources (not about fighting and pillaging), but the struggle of a 'normal' QI family rising slowly.
Really good story. Step-by-step, not a fast paced novel (that are very common), but also not a slow paced novel.
Interesting thing, the author doesn't spend a word at irrelevant characters. Like, the MC has concubines (at least one), but we don't even know their names or he doesn't spend a sentence describing their interaction, we know their existence indirectly by the interaction with his wife. Or, we can infer that there are servants in the house (because they are rich), but no mention of any of them other than the relevant martial artists, only by inference. This makes the story very interesting, as only really relevant events are mentioned in the story.
Good story. Good pace. Good management.
The characteristic is that the MC often (almost every year) changes many rules and the clan members are also changing their cultivation techniques because the new one is better. The good thing of this is that it is not a 'pedantic' novel.
Other things is like, if you think a little about it the cultivation progress of the MC and his clan members doesn't really add up, they are too fast. Like, ~20 years to from Early Nascent Soul to break through Spirit Transformation?! And some of his clan members are even more outrageous. Ok ok, some you could even accept, but ALL clan members have a outrageous cultivation progress (most are 3 spirit root, no bonuses). Other sects and the empire also have genius, money and cultivation techniques, but why they aren't this outrageous in the progress in their cultivation?!
Or the production rate of the family members, with just a few dozen people producing hundreds of thousands of items in just one year. And remembers they also have outrageous cultivation. And there is no boost or cheat. The productivity doesn't add up.
Or with just 20k mortals they mined ~50 million spirit stones in just over a year. In the beginning they had another mine with more people but mined ~100k/year.
Anyway, if you are interest only on the story and don't think too deep about those things, the story is worth reading.
* The ending was rushed. Many more things could be exploited.
