Very interesting from the first few chapters we learn that this is a modern world, and with the frequent mentions of Americans and other countries its safe to say this novel is mostly free from nationalism. I can't say too much on the power system yet but it appears to be ancient witchcraft which could be interpreted as beast taming. Very interesting novel will check back at ch 100.
