Nie Li started out as an untalented loser—until he got his hands on pages from the Temporal Demon Spirit Book. Using them, he managed to survive in hiding for thousands of years. After finally confronting the Sage Emperor and dying, he gets a second chance at life. After regressing, the first thing he does is stalk his underage girlfriend, who, in his previous life, was only with him out of desperation. Everyone who goes against him is conveniently labeled a villain, while Nie Li is a hypocritical “hero” who never really struggles, gets insanely lucky, stumbles into treasure after treasure, and solves problems way too easily.
All of his friends, who are from the lower world, just happen to be hidden geniuses who never face bottlenecks and gain years' worth of cultivation in just a few days, simply because they got techniques from the MC. Women fall for him just because he helps them once or twice, and he’s lowkey manipulative—boosting his friends not out of kindness, but to turn them into loyal minions to give himself a tiny chance at beating the final villain.
Cultivation in this story barely makes sense and is never really explored in depth. The lore is shallow, with new concepts introduced and then forgotten. The story also has a lot of filler, and is full of plot holes, retcons, contradictions, and inconsistencies. Once it hits the upper realm, it turns to complete trash—the MC suddenly becomes some messiah figure, and everyone becomes loyal to him because he hands out a few things. Without his deus ex machina Demon Spirit Book and past life memories, he’s basically just a bum.
Humans can awaken divine marks to boost their cultivation, and there are different types. MC gets a mysterious one and also gains access to a starry space where time flows ten times slower. He also has a spirit beast dog that randomly gives him cultivation techniques. But some things don’t add up. He sells a middle-grade martial art that's supposed to be very rare, yet he only gets enough money to buy five low-grade pills. He beats up a prince who tried to kill him, and his sudden advancement in cultivation proves he could’ve killed the other prince like they accused him of, but no one comes after him that night. He publicly reveals his cultivation level for no real reason. Young masters start picking fights with him out of nowhere, and there's a girl who likes him but has zero personality.
The MC lives in a modern martial arts society and starts off with a damaged foundation. He gets a panel that accelerates his martial arts using source points from energy sources, but he burns through his money and points way too fast, like spending several months’ salary on a single bath and some medicine. Instead of pacing himself with one point a day and using basic medicines and beast meat to heal his foundation, he jumps straight to needing top-tier medicine, which feels unnecessary early on. Out of nowhere, he starts writing a book, but since he’s still borrowing money, it’s unclear what the point of that is. He gives important info to someone without gaining anything, and that guy ends up dying, wouldn’t it have made more sense to ask to learn his martial arts instead, especially if the guy didn’t care about living? For some reason, the MC needs to reach a certain realm just to be an assistant instructor, even though knowledge and skill should matter too. People insult and oppose him for no clear reason. Things happen, but the plot jumps around and he still hasn’t fixed his foundation. That said, the setting has potential and gives off a Super Gene-style vibe.
When a village is wiped out by demonic cultivators, everyone dies except the MC, who happened to be out in the forest. He wanders for a while until someone finds him, and he gets a chance to train. He has an ability that lets him enter his dreams, which helps him train and recover much faster than normal. Thanks to his talent, he’s accepted as a disciple and starts learning martial arts. One thing that’s kind of annoying, though, is his childhood friend. She’s there with him, but she doesn’t do or say anything, just feels like a useless addition to the story. There's also not much action or progression, and it feels like the fantasy aspect is missing.
MC has a system that lets him travel to different time periods and rewards him whenever his family members level up. He easily gathers many peerless talents, and everyone around him is constantly amazed, gifting him more treasures. The enemies are all brainless loudmouths who bark a lot but end up getting slapped by the MC.
Hard to tell what's going on. Kinda weird how he managed to carry someone out of a house and through the streets without anyone noticing. There's someone the MC cares about who’ll probably end up being a burden, and he'll have to save her.
Too much time is spent on stuff that has nothing to do with climbing the tower. The MC trades some info for points, but then keeps giving away even more and gets caught up in side plots that just drag him into trouble, instead of focusing on getting stronger or preparing for the climb. Food costs less than ten points in the college, but somehow a cooked meal is several hundred, while a hundred thousand points is supposed to be a huge amount? It’s been 30 chapters, and he still hasn’t started climbing the tower or even seriously trained. Instead, he’s hanging around talking to groups that could kill him at any moment and stays at the college.
The MC joins the annual sect assessment with hopes of becoming an immortal. While in the forest, he stumbles into a cave, receives an inheritance, and finds out he's actually a descendant of a powerful family. He regains his ability to cultivate and starts learning magical arts. Everything is handed to him and perfectly arranged. The pacing is slow, a lot of time is spent on side characters and meaningless fights, and the MC doesn’t try to hide his strength. He ends up offending people and needs rescuing by people who somehow already know about his past.
MC starts off unable to cultivate but has a broken knife with a grandpa spirit inside. He finds out he’s been poisoned and that the woman he wanted to marry was planning to betray him to use his bloodline. The spirit gives him a cultivation technique and some refining methods for crafting items. He enters the inheritance of a thief, passes the test, and obtains a wood spirit bead. He also joins an academy through an entrance exam, aiming to become an artifact refiner. The plot's pretty average overall. One thing is that the MC doesn’t seem to go all out when he has the chance, like not dealing with the woman and the guy who schemed against him, and not looting everyone’s space rings during the inheritance trial. He also doesn’t really have any standout abilities, just some bow skills and a rare fire technique. Expect lots of young master conflicts and petty grudges along the way.
